Our Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Food Engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by ABET (EAC).

TOHUM Support from ASELSAN to the Project That is Important for Surgery and Intensive Care Units!

The research project "Heart Lung Machine Oxygenator Membrane Development and Coating Studies" carried out at ASELSAN Academy under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları, a faculty member of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering of our Faculty, and the coordination of our doctoral student Mustafa Bellek, has received TOHUM Project Support.

The research project titled “Heart Lung Machine Oxygenator Membrane Development and Coating Studies” conducted within the scope of the ASELSAN Academy Program has been awarded support within the scope of the ASELSAN TOHUM Project. The research project is being carried out under the coordination of Mustafa Bellek, a PhD student in our Faculty’s Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department and a Materials Design Engineer at ASELSAN, and under the consultancy of our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Ağaoğulları, who is both our student Mustafa Bellek’s thesis advisor at ITU and his thesis and project advisor at ASELSAN Academy, shared the following information about oxygenator membranes and the importance of the project: “Oxygenator membranes perform gas exchange in the Heart Lung Machine and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) procedures, ensuring the transfer of oxygen to the blood and the removal of carbon dioxide from the blood. It is a vital component that acts as a lung during surgery and intensive care unit. It has gained greater importance, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic period that started in 2019 and affected the whole world. Within the scope of the Seed Project Doctoral Support titled ‘Heart Lung Machine Oxygenator Membrane Development and Coating Studies’, membrane and biocompatible coating R&D activities will be carried out.” We congratulate our student and our faculty member and wish them continued success.
