A New Era in Science and Engineering Communication at ITU: Innovative Education with the Learning Station Model

by Sezgin Sarışen | Feb 11, 2025
The second and third sessions of the "Science and Engineering Communications: Communicating Research Through News Stories" learning station training were held on January 27-28 2025 at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center under the auspices of the ITU Center for Excellence in Education (ITU MEM).

The Learning Station was designed by Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Akkaya from the ITU Office for Science and Engineering Communication with Society (Toplumla.İTÜ) under the ITU Research Dean’s Office, targeting teams responsible for preparing e-bulletins for faculties and institutes.

Guided by the Learning Station Design Model, which emphasizes interactive and modular learning, this training aims to equip participants with the necessary tools to communicate technical research to society in an accessible and engaging manner.

Through case studies and hands-on training, participants are expected to develop competencies in identifying key narratives in scientific studies, crafting compelling headlines, and effectively conveying the significance of research to diverse audiences.

The Learning Station will continue with additional modules. This initiative aligns with Istanbul Technical University’s mission to promote an interdisciplinary education approach and foster effective science communication with society.
