The First "National Copper Summit" Held at ITU

by Sezgin Sarışen | Nov 18, 2024
ITU hosted the National Copper Summit, organized for the first time in Turkey under the leadership of ISO, KSO and İDDMİB. In the event held at our Ayazağa Campus, important names and stakeholders of the copper sector discussed increasing exports for the development of the sector, adaptation to green production and supporting innovation with R&D.

With the mission of being the university of the firsts and the best, ITU hosted a summit organized for the first time in our country. Bringing together expert names with the aim of increasing copper production and exports by producing high value-added products in line with green production and digital transformation, the National Copper Summit was held on October 31, 2024 at SDCC in our Ayazağa Campus.

Organized by our university, the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), Kocaeli Chamber of Industry (KSO) and Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association (IDDMIB), the one-day summit began with opening speeches.

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal stated that an important step was taken in the green transformation and digital transformation of the sector within the scope of the National Copper Summit and that R&D was very important in the green and digital transformation process. He underlined he believed that it would make a significant contribution not only in terms of the amount of copper exported but also in terms of the added value of copper products.

The National Copper Summit ended with the "Results and Roadmap Evaluation" panel following productive discussions on "Turkey's Copper Exports from a Production and Import Perspective", "Increasing Exports with R&D and Innovation", and "Green Transformation in the Copper Sector: Reaching the Target with Efficiency, Waste Utilization, Energy and "Green Copper"".
