ITU Faculty of Chemical Metallurgical Engineering

To be the 6th faculty established in the history of ITU, our faculty aims to make scientific and applied research in the fields of chemistry, metallurgy, food and bioengineering fields by pursuing developments in the tomorrow’s key technologies and interdisciplinary engineering opportunities to become a center of advanced solutions in national and international levels.

Our Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Food Engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by ABET (EAC).

TÜBİTAK PRIMA Project Support to Our Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Esra ÇAPANOĞLU GÜVEN

Department of Food Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Esra Çapanoğlu Güven’s project Oil4food was granted support within the scope of PRIMA Program’s 2022 Section 2 call.


Department of Food Engineering faculty member Prof. Dr. Esra Çapanoğlu Güven’s project Oil4food was found eligible for support under the TÜBİTAK PRIMA Program 2022 Section 2 call.

Project group includes Prof. Dr. Funda Karbancıoğlu Güler, Prof. Dr. Gürbüz Güneş, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derya Kahveci Karıncaoğlu and Assis. Prof. Dr. Gülay Özkan as investigators.

The project, with acronym Oil4food, is titled “Microbial Resources for a Sustainable Olive Oil System and a Healthier Mediterranean Food: From By-Products to Functional Food”. According to the results of the call, Oil4food is among the 25 projects eligible for support and one of the 13 projects to be supported from Türkiye. In the project in which ITU acts as “coordinating” institution, there are consortium partners from Germany, Spain, Italy, Morocco and Egypt.

PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) Program funds projects contributing to sustainable use of natural resources, economic growth and stability in the Mediterranean basin. PRIMA Program is supported by EU Horizon 2020. The PRIMA Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Barcelona, operating under this program.
