| The 2nd Türkiye Food Microbiology Congress, hosted by Istanbul Technical University (ITU), was held between September 4–6 at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. Under the honorary chairmanship of ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal and YTU Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik, and co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Funda Karbancıoğlu Güler from ITU’s Food Engineering Department and Prof. Dr. Muhammet Arıcı from YTU’s Food Engineering Department, the congress attracted great interest.
Leading scientists from various universities across our country, researchers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, and private sector stakeholders (food producers, food analysis laboratories, providers of analytical equipment and materials) came together at the congress. In addition to the panel sessions, the oral and poster presentations provided a platform for valuable exchanges of ideas.
During the congress, two panels were held: “Risks and Opportunities in the Food Sector” and “Practices and Future Prospects for Ensuring Food Safety.” Topics covered in the presentations included probiotics, bacteriophage applications, AI-assisted food safety solutions, microbial food poisoning, next-generation fermented foods, and non-thermal inactivation technologies. As part of the event, six “satellite workshops” were held by sponsoring companies, sharing knowledge with participants on new analytical techniques, equipment, and applications in food microbiology. |
